I am able to split samples fine, the splitting windows show on the screen.
But crop windows do not show at all. I can set the crop length to half the sample size, but there is no indication if it is the start, middle, or end.

This is the first time I see this issue. Could you try just to reload the page please maybe a script has not been executed properly and blocks the DOM.
You should see something like the following picture (with an overlay that you can modify):
